Dominic Joel Bermea
We checked out the name a bit before completely settling. This is what John pulled up from Wikipedia:
Translated from Latin it means 'of our lord' or 'belonging to God'. Variations include: Domenic, Dominik, Dominick and the usually feminine Dominique. Several saints have borne this name...
These aren't the reasons we're picking the name, but we thought we'd consider what it is generally known for and of course the "kids wll be kids" factor and find some way to make fun of names. We feel he will be fairly safe with this one. ;)
How we came up with the name. When we were considering the name Donovan I had asked a special little friend of ours, Lillee (9-yrs old) what were some names from boys in her class at school and/or other boys she knew. She gave me a bunch of names and then finally ended randomly and without thought, Dominic. When we told her a couple weeks later that we were thinking of using it, she'd completely forgotten that she'd thought of it. :) She's a cutie. So that's how the name came about. I had wondered if it would be fun to go with a name more with John's heritage (Spanish/Mexican-Canadian-Scottish), but realistically the name just stuck and we really like it. So that's it. :)
Baby Showers and the social baby-agenda:
I have decided on doing an Open House for myself (with help from my mumsi) instead of a babyshower. I don't particularily want an official babyshower simply because I know such a mixed group of people who don't know one another and I always hated going to an awkward shower myself. This is probably because I'm not a huge social bug outside of my regular group. Maybe it's the whole, "showing up on time, having to stay until an appropriate leave-time and not knowing anyone but the prego lady yet not even getting to really visit with them" deal? I'd rather give her gift at a time when I can visit.. ...maybe I'm just being silly, ohwell! It's my belly, it's my perogative right? haha. Anyway, so I had decided a while ago that I did not want an official babyshower, but my mom wasn't going to let me get away with that and then everyone keeps asking if I'm having one.... I guess there is no escape, I must do something. It isn't because I am not appreciative of gifts or thoughtful people, I just don't like being in the center. eek.
Therefore, I liked the idea of holding an open house because I can invite all these people to come within certain hours on a certain day to enjoy h'orderves and treats on their own time. No pressure on showing up on time or staying until another time or playing games they may not want to play and ones where I definitely don't want to be the center of attention on. I will be doing the Open House in March and will post an official date (and of course send out invites) as soon as I nail a date (which should be by this week).
On the other hand, I believe Robyn and I will also be having a double Babyshower (yes, the real type of shower I think) out at our parents house that will be including an invite list of a lot of people we grew up with (ladies from church, etc.). It is something I can't escape I suppose, being pregnant at the same time with my sister. Robyn's prettymuch had a babyshower from day one of being pregnant, haha! They have gotten presents right and left from people they know.
So that's the latest and greatest baby-news.

What a great name!! I really like Dominic...it always makes me think of the super-cute little boy on Kindergarten Cop, who (duh!) was named Dominic.
Also, an open house is a brilliant idea. I totally appreciated my showers, of course, but it was exhausting being the center of attention the WHOLE TIME. I think the double shower w/Robyn will be fun, too.
Congrats on picking the name, it's nice to know who's in there :)
I love his name! I was hoping you would really go with it. Of course I still might call him inchworm!
Good, strong, masculine name. I like it!
